Europe's largest microelectronics industry cluster, "Silicon Saxony," celebrated its 25th anniversary this year and held "Silicon Saxony Days 2026" on the 15th. Taiwan was selected as the official "Partner Country" for the first time. Ambassador Geng Shuang, Taiwan's representative to Germany, was invited to deliver a speech, emphasizing that Taiwan's semiconductor industry is a global model for successful de-risking and resilience. Ambassador Geng also expressed hope that the association would further assist German SMEs in connecting with Taiwan's semiconductor supply chain and help Taiwanese businesses integrate into the European industrial core.
The "Silicon Saxony" association held the 20th "Silicon Saxony Days 2026" from June 15th to 17th, 2026, at Dresden Airport in Germany. Over 2,000 elites and decision-makers from the global semiconductor industry attended, setting a new record for participation in the event.
Taiwan's De-risking and Resilience Worthy of Cooperation
Notably, Taiwan was selected as the official "Special Partner" this year. Ambassador Geng Shuang of the Taipei Representative Office in Germany was invited to deliver a speech titled "Taiwan – A Natural and Values-Based Partner for Democratic Economies."

Ambassador Geng emphasized that Taiwan and Germany share democratic values, with Taiwan ranking 12th globally in the EIU Democracy Index and sixth in IMD World Competitiveness. Notably, Taiwan produces over 90% of the world's advanced chips and AI servers. For instance, NVIDIA's new generation AI platform, Vera Rubin, was realized through the collaborative efforts of 150 Taiwanese companies. Taiwan (T-A-I-W-A-N) truly lives up to its interpretation as a "Top-AI-Wonderful & Attractive-Nation," and is a global model for successful "de-risking" and demonstrating "resilience," receiving enthusiastic applause from the entire audience.
Ambassador Geng also used the acronyms of the two countries' names to metaphorically praise Taiwan as Germany's "ROC partner" (Reliable, Outstanding, Constructive) and Germany as Taiwan's "BRD partner" (Best, Remarkable, Decisive). He expressed hope for deeper cooperation between the two countries in forward-looking fields such as semiconductors, artificial intelligence (AI), and green energy, to create a win-win situation.
Saxony State Premier Witnesses the Establishment of the German-Taiwanese Economic Forum
Furthermore, Saxony State Premier Michael Kretschmer met with Ambassador Geng Shuang before the opening ceremony to exchange views on bilateral relations between Germany and Taiwan. In his opening address, Premier Kretschmer repeatedly praised Taiwan's high-tech achievements, stating that Germany has much to learn from Taiwan, and pledged full support to ensure the smooth progress of TSMC's plan to establish its first European semiconductor wafer fabrication plant (ESMC) in Dresden, the capital of Saxony. The Premier's office posted a message and photos on Facebook that same day.
Another highlight was the official announcement of the establishment of the "German-Taiwanese Economic Forum" (Deutsch-Taiwanisch Wirtschaftsforum) at the opening ceremony. This forum was initiated by Daniela Kluckert, former Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure, and Frank Müller-Rosentritt, a former Member of the German Bundestag. Ambassador Geng and Premier Kretschmer signed the certificate of establishment for the forum, witnessing this important milestone in German-Taiwanese economic and trade cooperation. Ambassador Geng also expressed hope that the association would further assist German SMEs in connecting with Taiwan's semiconductor supply chain and help Taiwanese businesses integrate into the European industrial core.
During "Silicon Saxony Days," Ambassador Geng was accompanied by relevant personnel from the host organization, "Silicon Saxony," to visit Taiwanese exhibiting companies and representatives of Taiwanese supporting companies. The Taiwanese businesses expressed their gratitude for the government's care.
