Following former New Taipei City Deputy Mayor Hsieh Cheng-ta's statement today (16th) that he decided to decline the nomination for Control Yuan member, another nominee, former KMT legislator Liao Wan-ju, also issued a statement saying that after careful consideration, she has decided to decline the nomination for Control Yuan member, and as support for the Legislative Yuan's proposal to abolish the Control Yuan through constitutional amendment.
Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim announced on the 11th that President Lai Ching-te nominated Chen Yung-hsing, former president of the Taiwan Association for Human Rights, as the President of the Control Yuan, and current Control Yuan member Wang Jung-chang as the Vice President, and also nominated Hsieh Cheng-ta, Liao Wan-ju, and others as Control Yuan members.
Liao Wan-ju stated through a press release today, thanking everyone for their concern and advice during this period. After careful consideration, she has decided to decline the nomination for Control Yuan member.
Liao Wan-ju explained that as a political worker who has long served as a central legislator, when she received the inquiry for the Control Yuan nomination, she believed that with her years of experience interacting with local communities, she could contribute to fairly and quickly responding to the public's expectations of the Control Yuan and rebuilding societal trust in it. This was her original intention for being willing to accept the nomination.
Liao Wan-ju pointed out that with the announcement of the Control Yuan member list, it has sparked much discussion from all sectors, especially regarding the abolition of the Control Yuan. For the first time, there is a consensus among all parties in the ruling and opposition camps, and public opinion largely agrees. Therefore, she issued this statement as support for the Legislative Yuan's proposal to abolish the Control Yuan through constitutional amendment. She also hopes that the Legislative Yuan will expedite the constitutional amendment work for a constitutional system suitable for the Republic of China, in line with public expectations. She once again thanks for the nomination and thanks everyone for their concern and support. (Editor: Liao Yi-ting)
