[Cross-Strait] CCP Obstructs Taiwan's Participation in "Ocean Conference"; MAC: Taiwanese People Will Not Yield

The Mainland Affairs Council (MAC) stated this evening (16th) that it expresses its strong protest and condemnation regarding the CCP's pressure on the Kenyan government to obstruct our participation in this year's "11th Our Ocean Conference" (OOC 11), and even restricting the personal and communication freedom of our scholars.
The MAC pointed out that our country has long actively participated in global ocean affairs exchanges and cooperation. Since 2015, we have continuously participated in the "Our Ocean Conference," which has been highly recognized by the international community. The Beijing authorities have continuously used methods such as diplomatic suppression to restrict Taiwan's international participation space. Now, they have extended their political influence into international ocean cooperation and academic exchanges, excluding our participation, and even detaining our scholars for over 20 hours. This once again exposes their hegemonic mentality of prioritizing politics over professionalism and interfering in international affairs with authoritarianism.
The MAC emphasized that the Republic of China has the right to participate in the international community. The CCP's repeated pressure on various countries using its "One China Principle" to obstruct Taiwan's participation in international affairs will not change the status quo of the Taiwan Strait where the Republic of China and the People's Republic of China are not subordinate to each other, nor the objective fact that Taiwan has never been a part of the People's Republic of China. It will not shake our firm determination to participate in international affairs. The Taiwanese people will absolutely not retreat or yield due to the CCP's intimidation and threats. Taiwan will continue to cooperate with allied countries to contribute to international ocean affairs cooperation and sustainable development. (Editor: Liao Yiting)
