Legislative Yuan Vice President Johnny Chiang (江啟臣) met today (16th) with a delegation led by Congresswoman Lucy McBath (麥珂貝), Vice Chair of the U.S. House of Representatives' Congressional Black Caucus (CBC). Chiang explained that Legislative Yuan Speaker Han Kuo-yu (韓國瑜) will lead a delegation to visit Washington D.C. on the 21st, indicating the continued close development of Taiwan-U.S. relations. McBath stated that this visit to Taiwan emphasizes the strong partnership and long-term support between Taiwan and the U.S., hoping to contribute to peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait. #Listen to reporter Chao Wan-chun's report# U.S. House of Representatives Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) Vice Chair McBath and Representative Valerie Foushee are visiting Taiwan from the 16th to the 20th. They visited the Legislative Yuan this morning, where they were received by Legislative Yuan Vice President Johnny Chiang, along with Democratic Progressive Party Legislator Chen Kuan-ting (陳冠廷), Kuomintang Legislator Chen Yung-kang (陳永康), and Taiwan People's Party Legislator Hung Yu-hsiang (洪毓祥). In his welcoming remarks, Chiang first welcomed the Congressional Black Caucus delegation. He noted that this year marks the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States, and at this important juncture, Taiwan-U.S. relations and exchanges in various fields are developing closely. Particularly in economic and trade relations, bilateral trade exceeded $240 billion last year, making Taiwan the U.S.'s fourth-largest trading partner and the U.S. Taiwan's largest. Furthermore, the relationship between the people of both sides is becoming increasingly close. Chiang: "(Original sound) More importantly, this weekend Speaker Han will also lead our bipartisan committee members from the Legislative Yuan to visit the United States again by invitation. Of course, we will also participate in activities related to the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States, and will also visit Congress and other relevant dignitaries." Chiang also looks forward to exchanges between the governments and cities of both sides, believing that comprehensive exchanges will help enhance bilateral relations. Especially in the face of new technologies, geopolitical environments, the rise of AI, and digital transformation, cooperation among democratic partners is even more crucial. This is also an important direction for the continued deepening and strengthening of Taiwan-U.S. relations in the future. In her remarks, McBath said that Taiwan-U.S. relations are based on mutual trust, innovation, and cooperation. For decades, the U.S. has focused on stable Taiwan-U.S. relations and believes that Taiwan's regional stability is very important for U.S. development. McBath: "(English original sound) We hope that this delegation's visit can once again emphasize the strong partnership and long-term support between Taiwan and the United States, and we also hope to contribute to peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait. The close relationship between Taiwan and the United States will be the foundation of our economic development." McBeth stated that visiting the Legislative Yuan is a very important opportunity for Taiwan and the United States to reaffirm their cooperative relationship, reiterate the U.S. Congress's support for Taiwan, and further explore economic and trade cooperation and obtain first-hand local information. She also expressed hope for more frequent exchanges in the future. (Editor: Shen Chen-chiang) Source Link: https://www.rti.org.tw/news?uid=3&pid=214809
