China's united front work towards Taiwan has led to a chaotic phenomenon of "professionalization," and some localities have begun to rectify it. China's Taiwan Affairs Office spokesperson Chen Binhua said today (17th) that illegal intermediaries will absolutely not be allowed to profit improperly from cross-strait exchanges.
The Taiwan Affairs Office held a regular press conference this morning, where a reporter asked that according to media reports, the mainland has begun to rectify the chaos of some Taiwanese individuals profiting from cross-strait exchanges, and is promoting a "direct reporting and direct review" model, aiming to bypass intermediaries and directly connect with relevant Taiwanese groups and associations.
Chen Binhua responded that the mainland actively supports relevant personnel from both sides of the strait to participate in cross-strait exchange and cooperation in accordance with laws and regulations, but illegal intermediaries will absolutely not be allowed to seek improper benefits from cross-strait exchanges.
The WeChat public account "Looking at the World from Another Perspective" recently revealed that China's united front work, focusing on "first-time visitors" and young people from Taiwan's grassroots, has been used as a tool for profit by some ill-intentioned individuals, leading to frequent "professionalization" chaos. Originally exchange activities have been monopolized by certain "circles of acquaintances" for a long time, and the behavior of some "professional group leaders" has become increasingly extreme.
The article stated that at least cities such as Jingmen and Yichang in Hubei Province have begun to rectify the situation, establishing electronic files for exchange personnel, listing those with bad records on a "blacklist," and implementing cross-regional joint crackdowns. In addition, the mainland is also promoting the "direct reporting and direct review" model, bypassing intermediaries to directly connect with "patriotic groups" and school associations in Taiwan, completely cutting off the chain of interests, and strictly investigating illegal fee collection behaviors.
