The G7 Leaders' Summit was held in Evian, France, from the 15th to the 17th. The "G7 leaders’ statement on geopolitical issues" issued after the summit pointed out the importance of establishing a free and open Indo-Pacific region based on the rule of law. It reiterated a firm opposition to any unilateral attempts to change the status quo in the East China Sea, South China Sea, and Taiwan Strait through force or coercion, emphasizing that relevant issues should be resolved peacefully through dialogue.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the G7 Leaders' Summit statement reiterates its support for peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait, indicating that maintaining the status quo is an international consensus. As a responsible democratic nation in the Indo-Pacific region, Taiwan will continue to cooperate with G7 member states and like-minded global partners. Chen Yi-chun, Deputy Executive Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Public Relations Department, said: "(Original sound) Join hands to maintain the rules-based international order and jointly promote democratic, peaceful, and prosperous development in the Indo-Pacific region."
The "Chair's Summary" issued at the G7 Summit held in Canada in June last year mentioned that the G7 continues to be gravely concerned about China's destabilizing actions in the East and South China Seas and the importance of maintaining peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait. The 2024 G7 Summit in Italy issued a "Joint Statement," which not only emphasized that peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait are indispensable for international security and prosperity but also, for the first time, included wording supporting Taiwan's meaningful participation in international organizations.
