To accelerate the linkage of Taiwan's green products with the global green consumption market, the Ministry of Environment announced today (17th) that this year, through the Global Ecolabeling Network (GEN), it will first achieve mutual recognition with Japan's "Eco Mark." It also plans to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for label cooperation with the U.S. Global Electronics Council (GEC), simultaneously advancing cooperation projects with the U.S. and Japan. This signifies that Taiwan's Eco-label is officially elevating from an domestic green consumption identifier to an international green market pass.
The Ministry of Environment stated that Taiwan's Eco-label product system is mature. The total scale of green procurement by public and private sectors in 2025 is expected to reach NT$119.4 billion, with 5,369 valid labeled products.
To transform domestic robust green capacity into an international trade advantage, the Ministry of Environment signed an MOU for eco-label cooperation with the Japan Environment Association at the end of last year, marking the starting point for renewed Taiwan-Japan cooperation. This year, the cooperation between the two sides will officially enter substantive "mutual recognition," initially focusing on the "information products" and "imaging equipment" categories. This will significantly simplify the redundant verification processes and testing costs for bilateral enterprises, opening the door to the Japanese green procurement market for Taiwanese businesses with international supply chain potential.
Furthermore, the Ministry of Environment is actively exploring another path this year – integration into international standards. The EPEAT label promoted by the U.S. Global Electronics Council (GEC) is a global standard for information and communication technology products. As a major hub for the global computer and information industry, Taiwan will, through signing an MOU for cooperation with the U.S. GEC this year, assist Taiwanese manufacturers in obtaining the EPEAT label, thereby enhancing the value and international exposure of Taiwan's technology products in the global green supply chain.
The Ministry of Environment emphasized that Taiwan is a founding member of the Global Ecolabeling Network (GEN) and possesses a long-standing foundation for international standard exchange. Moreover, Taiwan's Eco-label product system is mature, with leading quality and quantity, serving as a solid backing for entering the international market. In the future, the Ministry of Environment will continue to deepen bilateral consultations with member countries, starting with mutual trust among certification bodies, empowering domestic certified manufacturers, jointly promoting cross-border green trade, driving Taiwan's green industry to new export peaks, and steadily advancing towards the 2050 net-zero transition.
