[International] Threads, IG Suspended Without Warning, Meta Apologizes: Most Accounts Restored

Meta's social media platforms Threads, Instagram, and Facebook have recently experienced a series of unannounced account suspensions. Meta issued a statement today (18th) saying that an error in the system caused affected accounts to be improperly triggered for age verification, which Meta has identified and fixed. The vast majority of affected accounts have now been restored to normal use.
Meta stated, "Meta deeply apologizes for any inconvenience this error may have caused" and emphasized that measures have been taken to prevent similar issues from recurring.
The cause of this incident was a technical error in Meta's age verification system, which incorrectly flagged some accounts as being under 13 years old, temporarily restricting their usage. This issue affected accounts in Taiwan and several other countries or regions.
During the initial repair period, some affected accounts were asked to upload identification documents to complete the age verification process. Meta has improved the relevant procedures. Currently, the vast majority of affected accounts, if confirmed by Meta to be users over 13 years old, have been automatically restored since June 17th, allowing users to directly use their accounts normally without needing to complete identity verification.
If an account is identified as still requiring the age verification process, users can restore their account by initiating the age verification themselves and confirming they are over 13 years old. (Editor: Liu Xianghua)
