Regarding Taitung County Magistrate Rao Ching-ling promoting agricultural products via video at the "Straits Forum" organized by the CCP, Mainland Affairs Council (MAC) Minister Chiu Chui-cheng stated today (18th) during an interview on an online live broadcast program that he does not understand why Rao Ching-ling must sell fruit on a platform with strong united front connotations. If agricultural product sales have political preconditions, there are political risks. Over the past 20 years, China has had countless cases of "raising, trapping, and killing" Taiwanese farmers. The MAC opposes selling fruits under political preconditions precisely to protect farmers. #CNA reporter Chen Nien-yi's interview report# The CCP recently held the 18th "Straits Forum," where Taitung County Magistrate Rao Ching-ling promoted agricultural products on the "Straits Forum" by recording a video. MAC Minister Chiu Chui-cheng stated during an interview with host Huang Wei-han on POP Radio's "POP Collision News" program today that the "Straits Forum" has fundamental differences from the Taipei-Shanghai "Twin Cities Forum." The "Twin Cities Forum" is hosted alternately by cities across the strait, while the "Straits Forum" is entirely dominated by the CCP authorities, not an equal, dignified, normal, or healthy exchange. Therefore, as early as the Ma administration in 2012, central and local government officials were prohibited from participating in the "Straits Forum." Chiu Chui-cheng also pointed out that if agricultural product sales have political preconditions, there are political risks. For example, China used to import Taiwanese agricultural products, but would cut them off as soon as cross-strait relations soured. Over the past 20 years, China has had countless cases of "raising, trapping, and killing" Taiwanese farmers. He does not understand why Rao Ching-ling must sell fruit on a platform with strong united front connotations. Chiu Chui-cheng said: "(Original sound) For example, going to the 'Straits Forum' this time, one must agree to the political preconditions of the '1992 Consensus and opposing Taiwan independence' to sell fruit. Is this a political order or a regular fruit order? Therefore, we oppose our politicians selling fruit on this united front platform. If you want to go at other times, as long as it's a normal transaction between civilians, that's fine. You can go at other times, why choose to sell fruit on this united front platform?" Chiu Chui-cheng stated that this year's "Straits Forum" held a "docking and signing ceremony" for 10 cross-strait measures. About 5 Taiwanese groups and individuals attended the signing. The MAC has asked the Ministry of Agriculture to conduct relevant investigations based on its duties, not only to understand the content of the agreements but also to assess their substantive impact on Taiwanese agriculture and clarify any doubts about "raising, trapping, and killing" Taiwanese farmers. Chiu Chui-cheng also emphasized that Taiwan's agricultural and diplomatic departments have always cherished farmers and worked hard to help them develop diverse overseas markets. However, China is not a long-term stable market, and Taiwan should not go back to its old ways. (Editor: Song Wan-yuan) Source link: https://www.rti.org.tw/news?uid=3&pid=215221
