Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an traveled to Singapore on the 14th to receive the "Lee Kuan Yew World City Prize" Special Award for 2026. He returned to Taiwan on the evening of the 17th and immediately attended a business attraction event for the Xinwei Urban Renewal Project in Taipei on the morning of the 18th. In an interview, Chiang Wan-an shared the achievements of this trip, emphasizing that this is the first time a city in Taiwan has received recognition, hailed as the "Nobel Prize" for global city evaluations. He once again thanked the citizens of Taipei and past mayors and city government teams for their joint efforts in bringing Taipei onto the international stage.
Chiang Wan-an stated that through the "Lee Kuan Yew World City Prize" platform, he also exchanged governance experiences and learned from leaders and teams from multiple cities worldwide regarding common challenges such as extreme climate, aging population and low birth rate, and geopolitical issues. Additionally, he visited the Punggol Digital District and the Singapore National Stadium to understand smart city planning and public-private partnerships in developing the "concert economy." He hopes to bring these experiences back to Taipei as a reference for future governance. Chiang Wan-an said: "(Original sound) So this trip to Singapore was indeed very fruitful, beyond expectations. We will bring back the experiences gained in Singapore with mayors of major global cities, and from our actual visits in Singapore, back to Taipei, hoping that Taipei will continue to progress steadily."
When asked by the media about the proposals of DPP Taipei mayoral candidate Shen Po-yang, such as "tech housing" and "marriage and child-rearing housing," aimed at improving housing and traffic issues in the Neihu district, Chiang Wan-an responded that the city government is willing to listen to and consider any good suggestions from citizens and all sectors.
Regarding Chiang Wan-an's earlier description of Taipei's diversity as "hot pot," Shen Po-yang suggested that "shaved ice" better represents Taipei's inclusive characteristics. The public has described the capital's election campaign as a "hot pot versus shaved ice showdown." Chiang Wan-an humorously replied, "The main course is hot pot, and dessert is shaved ice. Both are very good, actually."(Editor: Song Wan-yuan)
