Taitung County Magistrate Rao Qingling participated in the "Straits Forum" via a pre-recorded video. The Mainland Affairs Council (MAC) has requested the Ministry of Interior to investigate whether this violates the Cross-Strait Act. In response, KMT Chairperson Cheng Li-wen criticized this on the 18th as groundless suppression, stating that "the ghost of white terror has returned." DPP spokesperson Lin Chu-yin said that there are countless cases of Taiwan's agricultural and fishery products being "exploited and killed" by China, and questioned why the KMT insists on attending the CCP's "united front platform."
The MAC recently announced a ban on central and local government officials from participating in Straits Forum-related activities. Taitung County Magistrate Rao Qingling participated via a pre-recorded video, and the MAC stated it would ask the Ministry of Interior to investigate if this action violates the Cross-Strait Act.
Regarding the MAC's investigation into Rao Qingling's potential violation, KMT Chairperson Cheng Li-wen stated during a radio interview with "Qian Qiu Wan Shi" today that "the ghost of white terror has returned." She said that Rao Qingling's video promoting agricultural products was completely public and did not violate any laws, but the DPP is groundlessly creating terror and suppression. Is Taiwan still a democratic country?
DPP spokesperson Lin Chu-yin stated that the Straits Forum has been defined as a united front platform deliberately designed by the CCP since the Ma Ying-jeou administration in 2009, and central government officials were prohibited from attending. Now, the CCP's scheme of "promoting unification through integration" has not changed; only the KMT has changed from "anti-communist to pro-communist" and from "opposing participation to sneaking in attendance."
Lin Chu-yin pointed out that the "benefits and advantages for Taiwan" hyped by the KMT and the CCP are full of lies that can be debunked with data. Since 2022, China has implemented new food import regulations. Taiwan has applied for 1,687 items so far, with only 43 actually approved, a pass rate of only 2.5%. The Food and Drug Administration of the Ministry of Health and Welfare also confirmed that starting from May 2026, China's responses to inquiries about Taiwan's progress will be "read but not replied to," highlighting the significant uncertainty and risks of its preferential policies for Taiwan.
Lin Chu-yin urged that as Taiwan's industries have finally escaped the nightmare of relying on China, the KMT and Cheng Li-wen should clearly explain to the people why they must cooperate with the CCP's united front. She emphasized that stopping hardworking farmers and fishermen from falling into well-laid traps, and instead going global and diversifying risks, is the truly responsible way to boost the economy.
