Regarding Chinese actor Zhang Linghe's recent appearance at the Straits Forum, Mainland Affairs Council (MAC) spokesperson Liang Wen-chieh stated today (18th) that the Taiwan Affairs Office (TAO) of the Chinese Communist Party first deliberately arranged for media to question whether Zhang Linghe would come to Taiwan during a press conference. After hyping the issue for several weeks, they then arranged for him to speak at the Straits Forum. The entire maneuver was quite flexible and clever, but the traces of manipulation were a bit too obvious.
Liang Wen-chieh said, 'They are smart, but we are not fools.' Under the CCP's system, artists must obey the party. The MAC initially considered Zhang Linghe a simple entertainer, but now that the TAO has manipulated the situation, Zhang Linghe has already taken on political colors and is no longer that simple. Therefore, if he applies to come to Taiwan, his application will still be reviewed according to relevant regulations.
In addition, when asked by the media about the MAC's evaluation of KMT Chairwoman Johnny Chiang's statement that this visit to the US was unprecedented in scale and exceeded expectations, Liang Wen-chieh responded, 'I can only say that Chairwoman Chiang has extraordinary confidence in herself, a trait very rarely seen in ordinary people, which is quite admirable.'
