Tomorrow (19th) is the Dragon Boat Festival. The Central Weather Administration stated that the weather will be relatively stable from the Dragon Boat Festival until the 25th. Tomorrow, mountain areas will still experience localized heavier rainfall, with only scattered showers starting from the weekend; regarding temperature, it will turn hot everywhere, and areas in Greater Taipei, near mountains in central and southern Taiwan, and the East Rift Valley should be aware of local high temperatures exceeding 36 degrees Celsius.
Huang En-hung, a forecaster from the Central Weather Administration, said that due to strong convection this afternoon (18th), rainfall was most significant in Taipei City. The top 10 cumulative rainfall amounts were all in Taipei City, with Daan District in Taipei City recording the highest at 147 mm as of 5 PM today.
Huang En-hung stated that the Pacific high-pressure system is gradually strengthening. There will still be some moisture in the air over Taiwan tomorrow, but rainfall is predicted to decrease significantly. Greater Taipei, Yilan County, and mountain areas will have brief thunderstorms, with heavier rainfall possible in mountain areas.
Huang En-hung pointed out that from the 20th to the 25th, under the influence of the Pacific high-pressure system, there will be little change. Most areas will be sunny to cloudy, with high temperatures and heat. There will be scattered brief thunderstorms in mountain areas in the afternoon.
Regarding temperature, Huang En-hung mentioned that during the influence of the Pacific high-pressure system, high temperatures will be around 33 to 35 degrees Celsius everywhere. Areas in the Greater Taipei Basin, near mountains in central and southern Taiwan, and the East Rift Valley should be aware of local high temperatures exceeding 36 degrees Celsius. Additionally, southeastern Taiwan should still be aware of localized Föhn winds tomorrow and on the 20th.
Huang En-hung said that currently, it is observed that a tropical system will develop around Guam this weekend and may become a tropical depression next week, with a possibility of strengthening into Typhoon "Meari." The predicted path is towards the Ryukyu Islands, then turning northeast towards the waters south of Japan, with no direct impact on Taiwan.
Huang En-hung stated that the weather after the 26th will be related to this tropical system. If the path remains as currently predicted, Taiwan will still have relatively stable weather; however, if it gets closer to Taiwan, the chance of rainfall in the north and east will increase, and further observation is needed.
