President Lai Ching-te stated today (18th) that the IMD World Competitiveness Yearbook 2026, released by the Swiss Institute for Management Development (IMD), ranks Taiwan 4th globally among 70 evaluated countries, achieving its best performance ever. He said this is the result of the collective efforts of all citizens and a demonstration of Taiwan's resilience and competitiveness, signifying that the world recognizes Taiwan's stable democratic governance, complete industrial ecosystem, and leading technological innovation. The President posted on Facebook in the evening, stating, "Best ever! IMD World Competitiveness ranks Taiwan 4th globally. The IMD World Competitiveness Yearbook 2026, released by the Swiss Institute for Management Development, ranks Taiwan 4th globally among 70 evaluated countries, achieving its best performance ever. Among economies with a population exceeding 20 million, Taiwan has also ranked 1st in the world for six consecutive years." The President said this is the result of the collective efforts of all citizens and a demonstration of Taiwan's resilience and competitiveness. From the flexible adaptation of businesses, the solid contributions of all industries, to technological research and development, industrial upgrading, and the government's continuous optimization of the business environment and strengthening of infrastructure, this achievement stems from the long-term collaboration between the public and private sectors. The President stated that in the face of rising geopolitical risks and increasing global economic fragmentation, national competitiveness depends more on institutional credibility, adaptability, and resilience. Taiwan's ability to continue moving forward amidst change signifies that the world recognizes its stable democratic governance, complete industrial ecosystem, leading technological innovation, and the proactive spirit of its businesses in facing challenges. He mentioned that this year, Taiwan has improved to 5th globally in "Economic Performance," 6th globally in "Government Efficiency," and maintained 4th globally in "Business Efficiency." Behind these figures lies accumulated national strength and confidence in facing future challenges. The President stated that the government will continue to promote the Five Key Trust Industries, the New Ten Major Construction Projects for AI, and 13 key industries, deepen its advantages in semiconductors and AI, accelerate digital and net-zero transformation, enabling Taiwan to stand firmer, go further, and continue to be recognized by the world.
