Today (19th) is the first day of the Dragon Boat Festival holiday. Weather expert Wu Derong stated that from today to the 24th, it will get hotter day by day, with the highest temperature in the entire country reaching over 38 degrees Celsius. Around the 20th and 21st, a tropical disturbance is expected to develop east of the Philippines and may develop into a typhoon.
The Central Weather Administration pointed out that due to the influence of descending southwest winds, the weather will be hot and sunny. Taitung County may experience föhn winds. During the day today, Hualien County will have an orange alert, with temperatures possibly reaching 36 degrees Celsius continuously. Taipei City, New Taipei City, Taichung City, Changhua County, Nantou County, Yunlin County, Chiayi City, Chiayi County, Tainan City, Kaohsiung City, Pingtung County, and Taitung County will have a yellow alert, with temperatures expected to exceed 36 degrees Celsius.
The Dragon Boat Festival holiday lasts for three days, from today to the 21st. Wu Derong, an adjunct associate professor in the Department of Atmospheric Sciences at National Central University, stated in the "Heavenly Secrets Classroom" column of the Foundation for Atmospheric Research and Promotion that the latest European model (ECMWF) simulation shows that from today to the 24th, the Pacific high pressure will strengthen, making it hotter day by day. It will be sunny and hot like midsummer everywhere, with the highest temperature in the country exceeding 38 degrees Celsius. There may be occasional localized brief showers in mountainous areas in the afternoon.
Wu Derong pointed out that the latest model simulation shows that from the 25th to the 28th, a front will hover north and south between Central China and the northern sea, and a tropical system will move north near the Ryukyu Islands. Moisture will increase near Taiwan, and the atmosphere will become unstable. The degree of change varies greatly among different countries' model simulations, indicating that there are still variables and further observation is needed.
Wu Derong said that around the 20th and 21st, a tropical disturbance is expected to develop east of the Philippines and may develop into a typhoon. He mentioned that the latest European model ensemble simulation path has been adjusted to move northeastward in a large loop east of Taiwan and near the Ryukyu Islands. However, as different countries' models will continue to adjust, further observation is necessary. (Editor: Chen Wen-wei)
