On June 18, the Korean government announced the extension of the 5% preferential tariff measure for fruits such as bananas, pineapples, and mangoes, which was originally set to expire on June 30, until August 15. The Ministry of Agriculture stated today (19th) that Taiwan's mango peak season is from June to August, which is staggered with Jeju Island's mangoes, which are produced in small quantities in Korea and whose season begins around August. The extension of tariff preferences will be able to meet the demand of the Korean market and achieve mutual benefit.
The Ministry of Agriculture pointed out that it is currently the peak season for Taiwan's mangoes. The successful effort to secure Korea's continued 5% import tariff preference is a strong boost for our farmers and businesses in their overseas high-end market strategy. The Ministry of Agriculture will continue to actively promote mango exports by guiding domestic farmers to improve fruit quality, implement safe medication in orchard management, enhance quarantine and treatment technologies, and ensure cold chain logistics transportation throughout the process, thereby establishing the high-quality image of Taiwanese mangoes internationally. In addition, the Ministry of Agriculture will also assist export businesses in collaborating with supermarkets, department stores, and other channels in target markets to organize promotional marketing activities, increasing consumer loyalty to the Taiwanese mango brand. In recent years, the Ministry of Agriculture's deep cultivation of the Korean market has shown concrete results. This June, Taiwanese mangoes have also broken through the EU's strict new quarantine regulations, successfully entering high-end department stores and other channels in France and opening up new consumer markets in Europe.
The Ministry of Agriculture emphasized that in the future, it will continue to promote Taiwanese agricultural products to the world. In addition to consolidating and deepening mature markets such as the United States, Japan, and Korea, it will also actively guide businesses to diversify risks and explore market channels in emerging countries such as Southeast Asia, Australia, and New Zealand, creating stable, diverse, and sustainable business opportunities for Taiwan's agricultural exports and ensuring farmers' income.
