Chinese vessels have frequently operated in waters around Taiwan in recent years, raising external concerns about gray zone harassment. National Security Council Secretary-General Wu Chao-hsieh posted on the social media platform "X" today (19th) stating that yesterday (18th), Taiwan Coast Guard personnel, undeterred by adverse sea conditions, pursued and successfully intercepted a Chinese fishing vessel illegally fishing in our waters, which was unnamed and unregistered. He extended his regards to the Coast Guard personnel and thanked them for guarding Taiwan's maritime borders. China has long used various vessels, including coast guard ships, maritime surveillance ships, and maritime militia, to frequently enter and exit waters around Taiwan, which is seen as a continuous escalation of gray zone harassment against Taiwan. National Security Council Secretary-General Wu Chao-hsieh posted on the social media platform "X" on the 19th, stating that just yesterday, the Taiwan Coast Guard, undeterred by adverse sea conditions, bravely pursued and intercepted a Chinese fishing vessel illegally fishing in our waters, which was unnamed and unregistered. Wu Chao-hsieh said he wanted to give the Coast Guard "a big thumbs up" and thanked them for guarding Taiwan's maritime borders. Furthermore, media reports indicated that China's Ministry of Natural Resources' research vessel "Xiangyanghong 22" illegally intruded into Taiwan's restricted waters late on the 18th. The Coast Guard dispatched the newly commissioned "Lan Yu" and PP-10077 vessel to intercept. Confrontation footage was released on the 19th. Coast Guard personnel broadcast warnings in Mandarin and English via radio, demanding that "Xiangyanghong 22" immediately turn and leave. The vessel eventually sailed out of Taiwan's restricted waters. In response, Wu Chao-hsieh subsequently released the radar track of "Xiangyanghong 22" on "X," stating that the track showed the vessel deliberately intruded into Taiwan's waters, continuing maritime bullying against Taiwan. The Taiwan Coast Guard warned via radio: "This is not your water, you do not belong here."
