An unidentified Chinese fishing boat crossed into the waters west of Huayu, Penghu, to operate. After repeated horn blasts, broadcasts, pursuit, and interception by the Penghu Coast Guard, the boat and its crew were seized and escorted back to Magong Port early this morning (19th). All 750 kilograms of fish caught on board were thrown back into the sea.
The Kinma-Penghu Branch stated that while the Penghu Coast Guard was enforcing the law at sea last night, China's "Haiging 2102" also appeared in the waters west of Penghu, ostensibly for law enforcement patrols. The Coast Guard Administration dispatched the "Lienchiang" vessel to monitor the situation throughout, preventing the coast guard ship from approaching Taiwan's waters for "gray zone" harassment and firmly defending maritime sovereignty and fishermen's rights.
Around 7 PM on the 18th, the 13th Patrol District of the Kinma-Penghu Branch of the Coast Guard Administration discovered an unidentified Chinese fishing boat illegally operating across the border in the waters west of Huayu, Penghu, under the cover of darkness. Despite 5 rounds of warning broadcasts and horn blasts from the Penghu Coast Guard patrol boat, the fishing boat not only failed to cooperate but also weaved and accelerated to escape, refusing to stop for inspection. The patrol boat immediately deployed a small boat for pursuit and interception. At 8:15 PM, they successfully boarded and inspected the vessel approximately 31 nautical miles west of Huayu. An inspection revealed a total of 6 crew members on board. The 750 kilograms of fish caught were all thrown overboard according to regulations. The boat and its crew were escorted back to Magong Port for investigation and penalties.
The Kinma-Penghu Branch stated that during China's current summer fishing moratorium, Chinese fishing boats and unidentified speedboats continue to cross the border to fish in Penghu waters. This not only encroaches on Taiwan's fishery resources but also repeatedly leads to fishing disputes with Taiwanese fishermen. To maintain maritime sovereignty and the safety of fishermen, a "Dragon Boat Festival sweep operation" is being planned to strengthen patrols and monitoring in key maritime security areas during the festival period.
