Jakarta Taiwanese School held a Dragon Boat Festival event on the 19th, replacing traditional dragon boats with balloon dragon boats for a "land boating race" on the playground. Elementary school students and parents participated enthusiastically, enjoying parent-child fun. Established in 1991 in Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia, Jakarta Taiwanese School is one of four Taiwanese schools supported by the Ministry of Education in Southeast Asia. The school implements the Taiwanese curriculum and is a trilingual institution, primarily providing comprehensive education from kindergarten to high school for children of Taiwanese businesspeople and overseas Chinese in Indonesia, as well as foreign students. It has long promoted high-quality Taiwanese education in Southeast Asia, fostering cultural and educational exchange between Taiwan and Indonesia. As the majority of Indonesians are Muslim, there is a lack of environment for traditional Chinese festivals like the Dragon Boat Festival locally. Jakarta Taiwanese School plans experiential activities for traditional festivals. In the past, through activities such as making zongzi, standing eggs, and crafting sachets, it has provided opportunities for children of Taiwanese businesspeople and foreign students living and studying abroad to experience festival customs. Continuing the festive tradition from previous years, the school introduced dragon boat elements for the first time this year, specifically launching a balloon dragon boat race. Parents and children rode on stylized dragon boats, working together to complete the competition, allowing teachers, parents, and students to deepen their experience of traditional culture through the "land boating" game. Principal of Jakarta Taiwanese School, Chang Jin-fu, stated that the Dragon Boat Festival is an important traditional holiday. By organizing diverse and engaging activities, the school hopes to help students understand the origins of the Dragon Boat Festival and further cultivate their recognition and inheritance of traditional culture. Chang Jin-fu added that the school hopes to enable children to learn and feel the festive culture through play in an entertaining and educational manner, while also adding a Dragon Boat Festival atmosphere to the campus. The event helps enhance trust and communication among parents, the school, and children, and strengthens the emotional bonds between teachers, parents, and students through shared memories.
