The American contemporary new media art platform "CURRENTS 2026 Art & Technology Festival" is being held in Santa Fe, New Mexico. The Taiwan Academy in Houston stated that the participating Taiwanese artists, through technological media combined with cultural narratives, ecological thinking, and perceptual experiences, showcase unique perspectives distinct from Western creative contexts. The CURRENTS 2026 Art & Technology Festival runs from the 12th to the 21st. The Taiwan Academy in Houston recently issued a press release stating that with the academy's support, this initiative is executed by the Future Vision Lab of the Taiwan Contemporary Culture Lab (C-LAB), under the theme "Taiwan Showcase." It brings together Taiwanese artists such as Hsin-Yu Chang, Mu Duan, Chen-An Li, Po-Ching Chou, and Professor Chun-Hao Hou from Yang Ming Chiao Tung University to exhibit Taiwanese new media art. The Taiwan Academy in Houston pointed out that Frank Ragano, one of the founders of the CURRENTS Festival, affirmed the Taiwanese team's contribution of diverse and experimental creative viewpoints to this year's festival and looks forward to deepening cooperation and exchange. The "Taiwan Showcase" features five artists exhibiting, presenting, and participating in discussions. "Non-Carbon-Based Botany," a collaborative work by Chun-Hao Hou, Chen-An Li, and Po-Ching Chou, explores imaginations of artificial life and ecosystems through biomimetic kinetic installations. Hsin-Yu Chang's work develops viewing experiences of sound and spatial perception through real-time audio-visual computation and interactive narratives. Mu Duan exhibits the video work "The Word Thief" and the XR immersive interactive work "Shan Shui Jue," which explore the relationship between humans and the environment starting from mythological narratives, ecology, and disaster experiences. The Taiwan Academy in Houston stated that in response to this year's Currents forum theme, "Emergence of Other: the Numinous, Technology and Our Future Selves," Taiwanese artists, through technological media combined with cultural narratives, ecological thinking, and perceptual experiences, demonstrate unique perspectives distinct from Western creative contexts. "Shan Shui Jue" is presented in an XR immersive interactive format, attracting many audience members to participate and interact. Hsin-Yu Chang performed live during the festival and engaged in enthusiastic discussions with the audience afterward. Professor Chun-Hao Hou also had active interactions with the audience during the artist sharing session. The Taiwan Academy in Houston stated that this is the first year of cooperation with the CURRENTS Festival. In addition to providing Taiwanese artists with significant international exhibition opportunities, it further promotes exchange with international institutions and research communities. Upon the art team's return to Taiwan, C-LAB will plan an online sharing session, inviting participating artists to share their on-site observations and exchange experiences.
