The second day of the Dragon Boat Festival holiday, pay attention to the hot weather. Weather expert Wu Derong pointed out today (20th) that from today to the 24th, the weather will be sunny and hot like summer everywhere, with the highest temperature in Taiwan reaching over 38 degrees Celsius. The future movement of the newly formed Typhoon Mikala still needs to be observed. Wu Derong, adjunct associate professor at National Central University's Department of Atmospheric Sciences, said in the "Heavenly Secrets Revealed Classroom" column of the Foundation for Promotion of Meteorological Applications today that the latest European model simulation shows that due to the strengthening of the Pacific high pressure from today to the 24th, it will be hotter day by day, and the weather everywhere will be "sunny and hot like midsummer." The forecast predicts that the highest temperature in Taiwan will reach over 38 degrees Celsius, and there is a chance of occasional localized light rain in the mountains in the afternoon. The Central Weather Administration also issued a high-temperature advisory today, stating that due to the subsidence of the southwest monsoon, the weather will be hot and humid. Taitung County has a chance of Föhn wind. During the day today, Chiayi County and Hualien County will be under an orange alert, with temperatures possibly reaching 36 degrees Celsius for consecutive days. As for Keelung City, Taipei City, New Taipei City, Taoyuan City, Taichung City, Changhua County, Nantou County, Yunlin County, Chiayi City, Tainan City, Kaohsiung City, Pingtung County, and Taitung County, they will be under a yellow alert. In addition, regarding Typhoon Mikala, which formed early this morning, Wu Derong also said that Mikala is approaching the waters east of Taiwan from the northwest-west and will gradually turn north in 4 days. The latest European model ensemble simulation path shows that after 5 days, "Mikala" will turn north, then pass near the waters of Ryukyu, and make a large turn to the northeast. Wu Derong stated that as the forecasts from various countries' models and the Central Weather Administration will continue to be adjusted, the typhoon's movement should be continuously observed.
