TAITRA Chairman Huang Chih-fang today (20th) concluded his 3-day, 2-night visit to Lviv, Ukraine. He stated that catalyzed by the Russia-Ukraine war, Lviv has become a focal point for exchanges between eastern and western Ukraine, as well as a hub for aid and visits from various countries. During this trip, both sides reached a consensus to promote Taiwan-Ukraine cooperation in areas such as social humanitarian aid, charity, healthcare, and economic industries like information and communication technology. They also aim to accelerate bilateral exchanges. For instance, Lviv will host a large international IT event in September, and an international forum on rebuilding Ukraine will be held in Poland in November. Taiwanese companies are encouraged to consider participating in these events to find partners and business opportunities.
Huang Chih-fang explained that this visit was at the invitation of the Lviv City Government to survey Ukraine's economic and trade industries and social resilience. He felt the sincere arrangements made by the city government, which even sent a letter to customs for expedited clearance at the border. He received a warm reception from Mayor Andriy Sadovyi, and the deputy mayor dined and held discussions at his hotel twice.
During the 3-day, 2-night visit, Huang Chih-fang successively visited the city government, toured the UNBROKEN medical complex and the "Taiwan Friendship Building" donated by Taiwan, visited the Formatsia Industrial Park and logistics center, a drone factory, and met with Lviv IT Cluster, Ukraine's largest technology industry association. He also attended a memorial service for fallen soldiers in front of the city hall.
Huang Chih-fang admitted that besides witnessing Ukraine's resilience, he also felt that under the pressure of war, this is a resilient city where life goes on as usual amidst the flames of war, which is admirable and worth learning from for Taiwan.
Regarding the drone factory, Huang Chih-fang pointed out that due to the Russia-Ukraine war, Ukraine has a huge demand for drones, making cost a significant consideration. Ukraine's drone industry is booming, and the drone factory visited uses high-end Taiwanese components, especially electronic control components. He also informed the manufacturers that Taiwan's product technology and cost-effectiveness are outstanding. He believes there will be many cooperation models in the future to solve cost issues, offering considerable room for collaboration. (Editor: Shen Chen-chiang)
