The Central Weather Administration stated that before the 24th, the weather will be sunny to cloudy across the island, with western high temperatures reaching up to 37 degrees Celsius. Typhoon Mikala, which formed today (20th), is expected to strengthen into a moderate typhoon by the 22nd. After the 23rd, it will gradually turn north, approaching Taiwan most closely on the 25th and 26th. Its path is still under observation, and the issuance of a marine warning is not ruled out. According to the official website of the Central Weather Administration, this year's seventh typhoon, Mikala, formed today. At 2 PM, its center was located at 14.3 degrees North latitude and 136.7 degrees East longitude, moving northwest at a speed of 23 kilometers per hour. Forecaster Cheng Chieh-jen of the Weather Administration stated that before the 23rd, the typhoon will be guided by the Pacific high pressure, moving rapidly northwest. After the 23rd, it will gradually turn north, heading towards the waters east of Taiwan or the sea south of the Ryukyu Islands. The position and angle of its northward turn are mainly influenced by the strength of the Pacific high pressure, but there is still some uncertainty. Cheng Chieh-jen pointed out that Mikala is predicted to be closest to Taiwan on the 25th and 26th, and the issuance of a marine warning is not ruled out, but further observation is needed. Regarding typhoon intensity, Cheng Chieh-jen said that the environment in the next 2 to 3 days will be more conducive to Mikala's development. It is expected to strengthen into a moderate typhoon by the 22nd. However, during the northward turn, the overall atmospheric environment will gradually become less favorable for its development, and its intensity and scope may gradually weaken. Concerning the weather for the upcoming week, Cheng Chieh-jen indicated that the weather will be similar until June 24th, with sunny to cloudy skies across the island, high temperatures, and scattered brief thunderstorms in mountainous areas in the afternoon. Specifically, there may be scattered brief showers in southern Taiwan on the morning of the 24th. Cheng Chieh-jen stated that as Typhoon Mikala moves northward from the waters east of Taiwan on the 25th and 26th, Taiwan will be on the edge of the high-pressure system, influenced by the southwest monsoon, leading to a slight increase in moisture. Southern Taiwan will experience localized brief showers or thunderstorms; other areas will be cloudy with localized brief thunderstorms in the afternoon. Cheng Chieh-jen noted that Typhoon Mikala is expected to gradually move away by the 27th, with cloudy to sunny skies across the island and localized brief thunderstorms in the afternoon. Regarding temperatures, Cheng Chieh-jen said that before the 24th, eastern Taiwan will be around 32 to 34 degrees Celsius, and western Taiwan will be around 34 to 37 degrees Celsius. Local areas such as the foothills of central and southern Taiwan, Greater Taipei, and the East Rift Valley may experience even higher temperatures. Cheng Chieh-jen pointed out that from the 25th to the 27th, high temperatures will slightly decrease, with widespread highs in Taiwan generally around 31 to 34 degrees Celsius. As for the low temperatures in the coming week, they will not change much, ranging between 24 and 27 degrees Celsius. Source Link: https://www.rti.org.tw/news?uid=3&pid=215685
