Minister of Foreign Affairs Joseph Wu pointed out that Taiwan is an indispensable partner for Europe's re-industrialization. Taiwan can undertake advanced manufacturing and mass production, not just cooperation in the semiconductor field. He revealed that during the recent France-Africa Summit convened by French President Emmanuel Macron, France, through intermediaries, hoped Taiwan would recommend major electronics companies to go to Africa to help establish sovereign AI.
Joseph Wu was interviewed by Liu Fang-tzu, host of Formosa TV's "News Observation Post," with the program airing this afternoon (the 20th).
Joseph Wu stated that he has visited Europe five times since becoming Minister of Foreign Affairs. After the Russia-Ukraine war, Europe is most concerned about "re-industrialization" and re-arming Europe. However, Europe's manufacturing capacity has been disrupted. Taiwan can undertake advanced manufacturing and mass production. Therefore, it's not just TSMC cooperating with Europe in semiconductors; Europe also needs the entire ICT industry, servers, data centers, etc., because computing power is necessary for AI. Thus, Taiwan can play a role and become an indispensable partner for Europe.
Joseph Wu revealed that during the Africa Forward Summit convened by Macron in Kenya recently, France, through intermediaries, hoped Taiwan would recommend major electronics companies to go there to establish AI data centers and AI computing power. Macron stated at the meeting in front of leaders from various countries that the EU and Taiwan would cooperate to go to Africa to help Africa establish sovereign AI.
Joseph Wu analyzed that France does not want to follow China's "red supply chain" but also does not want to be controlled by US President Trump. Taiwan is ready and can cooperate with France at any time. However, Taiwan's partners are not limited to France; there are many recent investment and cooperation projects, including advanced packaging, satellites, and satellite cooperation. He said that Taiwan's current layout spans the United States, Japan, and Europe. If Europe wants to re-industrialize and re-arm, "it will be difficult for them to achieve this goal without Taiwan."
Joseph Wu stated that Taiwan has always advocated for "value diplomacy" but needs to develop it into "value-added diplomacy," creating greater added value for allies and making Taiwan indispensable.
Regarding his next visit to Europe, Joseph Wu revealed it would be to attend the "Europe Taiwan Image Exhibition" grandly held in Warsaw, Poland, on the 22nd. This exhibition, organized by the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), covers fields such as AI, smart cities, healthcare, and transportation, for which Taiwan has complete solutions. Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski also mentioned in his parliamentary report the development of a strategic partnership with Taiwan in technology, which is why Taiwan can "go global."(Editor: Shen Chen-chiang)
