The Meteorological Administration issued high temperature information today (21st) for Taipei, New Taipei, and 8 other counties and cities. Weather expert Wu Der-rong stated that before the 25th, the weather will be sunny and hot like midsummer, with temperatures reaching up to 38 degrees Celsius. Tropical storm Mikala is approaching the waters east of Taiwan and is expected to strengthen into a moderate typhoon as early as tomorrow, with its path still uncertain.
The Central Meteorological Administration issued high temperature information, indicating hot weather across the island. During the day today, New Taipei City, Changhua County, Nantou County, Yunlin County, Tainan City, Pingtung County, and Hualien County are under an orange alert, with a chance of continuous high temperatures of 36 degrees Celsius. Taipei City is under a yellow alert, warning of temperatures above 36 degrees Celsius.
Wu Der-rong, an adjunct associate professor in the Department of Atmospheric Sciences at National Central University, stated in the "Heavenly Secrets Classroom" column of the Foundation for Promotion of Meteorological Applications that the latest European model simulation shows that from today until the daytime of the 25th, the Pacific high-pressure system will dominate, making the weather sunny and hot like midsummer across the island, with the highest temperature reaching over 38 degrees Celsius. There will be occasional scattered light rain in the mountainous areas in the afternoon.
Wu Der-rong said that the latest model simulation shows that the last cold front of the plum rain season, from the evening of the 25th to the 26th, will move south to northern Taiwan due to the northerly winds from the periphery of the typhoon, bringing significant rainfall and a slight drop in temperature. From the 27th to the 30th, moisture will increase around Taiwan, and the atmosphere will become unstable, with localized showers or thunderstorms in the afternoon and rising temperatures.
Wu Der-rong emphasized that because the positions where various countries' models simulate Typhoon Mikala turning north vary greatly, the subsequent weather will be very different and still uncertain, requiring further observation.
Wu Der-rong pointed out that the latest typhoon track probability forecast map from the Meteorological Administration shows that Typhoon Mikala, the 7th typhoon, is approaching the waters east of Taiwan from the northwest-west. It is predicted to strengthen into a moderate typhoon tomorrow, turn north from the 23rd, and move north along the east side of Taiwan on the 24th and 25th. Although it will be closer, there will still be some distance, and its intensity will have weakened to a light typhoon.
Wu Der-rong stated that the latest European model ensemble simulation shows Mikala passing near the Ryukyu Islands on the 26th and making a large turn northeastward. The forecasts from various countries' models and the Meteorological Administration all show significant uncertainty and require continued observation. (Editor: Song Wanyuan)
