The Joint Council of Taiwanese Chambers of Commerce in Central and South America held its conference in São Paulo from the 19th to the 21st. On the 20th, the Ministry of Economic Affairs hosted a luncheon at the Hilton Hotel, emphasizing how Taiwan's textile industry is supplying jerseys for multiple countries in the 2026 World Cup with innovative technology and eco-friendly fabrics, showcasing Taiwan's key position on the international stage.
Shu Chih-hung, Deputy Director of the Economic Division of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Brazil, delivered remarks on behalf of Minister of Economic Affairs Kung Ming-hsin, stating that Taiwan, with its complete industrial chain, technological innovation capabilities, and agile corporate spirit, continues to demonstrate high resilience and competitive advantages. Especially in the fields of semiconductors, high-performance computing, and artificial intelligence, Taiwan has become an indispensable partner in the global supply chain.
He emphasized that with the World Cup football tournament approaching, Taiwan's textile industry is once again in the spotlight. The jerseys for national teams of multiple countries, including Brazil, are supplied and manufactured by Taiwanese companies, utilizing recycled PET bottle fibers and eco-friendly fabrics, demonstrating Taiwan's leading position in sustainable R&D and high-performance textiles. Taiwan's textile industry is not only an important partner for international sports brands like Nike, Adidas, and Puma but also plays the role of a "hidden champion" in major global events.
Shu Chih-hung stated that in the face of global supply chain restructuring and the wave of artificial intelligence, the government is actively promoting the "Five Key Trustworthy Industries" and assisting various sectors in adopting AI applications to enhance production efficiency and added value. Central and South America, with its abundant natural resources and vast market, presents enormous business opportunities in areas such as energy transition, smart agriculture, and infrastructure, which are highly complementary to Taiwan's industrial strengths.
