The 2026 World School Sport Games Basketball Championship is taking place in Serbia. The Taiwan women's basketball team, on the 21st, secured a spot in the finals by defeating Turkey 87-32 in the semifinals, with Zhang Yutong scoring a game-high 23 points. This achievement marks the best result in the team's history.
In the preliminary round, Taiwan was grouped with Croatia and India, advancing as group leaders to the top 16. They continued their strong performance, defeating the Czech Republic 104-37 and then eliminating the USA 81-59 in the quarterfinals.
In today's semifinals, besides Zhang Yutong's 23 points, Xu Yushan also contributed a steady 14 points, leading the team to dominate their opponents.
Previously, Taiwan's best performance in the World School Sport Games Basketball Championship was reaching the semifinals in 2019. This year, they have set a new record. They are scheduled to compete for the championship against a strong opponent, China, at 0:00 AM on June 22nd.
