In addition to visiting the TSMC plant in Phoenix, Arizona, the delegation will also go to Washington D.C. to interact with members of the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives. Han Kuo-yu stated that the trip aims to achieve four major goals, including deepening congressional exchanges, extending congratulations on U.S. Independence Day, taking the inaugural direct flight, and paying attention to TSMC's development. #CNA reporter Liu Pin-hsi's interview report# Legislative Yuan Speaker Han Kuo-yu led 7 cross-party legislators to depart for the United States on the evening of the 21st, embarking on a 7-day, 6-night congressional diplomacy trip. The delegation will stay in two cities, first visiting the TSMC plant in Phoenix, Arizona, and then proceeding to Washington D.C. to meet with dignitaries. Speaking to reporters at Taoyuan Airport, Han Kuo-yu said that the trip was at the invitation of the U.S. Congressional Taiwan Caucus of the Senate and House of Representatives. He specifically thanked the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) for assisting with the arrangements and TSMC for accepting the delegation's visit. He pointed out that the trip aims to achieve four major goals, the primary one being congressional exchange, where legislators from both sides will engage in extensive discussions on various issues such as national security and deepening Taiwan-U.S. cooperation. He said: "(Original sound) Legislators can have broad conversations with legislators, discussing various national security issues, constituencies, and all aspects of problems. Additionally, whether the U.S. and Taiwan congresses can deepen cooperation and ties, as well as future exchanges, are among the main topics that will be discussed between the two congresses." Han Kuo-yu noted that this year marks the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Independence Day. As the highest legislative body of the Republic of China, the Legislative Yuan, this delegation of cross-party legislators will represent all citizens in extending the highest regards and congratulations to the U.S. government. Furthermore, the delegation will take the inaugural direct flight from Washington to Taipei on their return, which signifies a further deepening of Taiwan-U.S. exchanges and holds significant meaning. Han Kuo-yu stated that another major goal of this trip is to pay attention to TSMC's development. TSMC has been investing in the United States for nearly 5 years and currently has 3 million shareholders. Many citizens are concerned about TSMC's development. In addition to visiting the TSMC plant, the delegation will also interact with TSMC employees. Legislative Yuan Vice Speaker and "Taiwan-U.S. Congressional Friendship Association" President Johnny Chiang, who specially came to see them off, said that the importance and influence of Legislative Yuan Speaker Han Kuo-yu personally leading this congressional diplomacy delegation are undoubtedly profound. After Han Kuo-yu led a delegation to Europe in May, French parliamentarians immediately visited Taiwan for exchanges, demonstrating the importance of congressional diplomacy to Taiwan. Johnny Chiang emphasized that Taiwan and the United States have long maintained close security and economic relations. Especially in the past two years, Taiwan-U.S. economic and trade relations have developed even more rapidly. The U.S. is now Taiwan's largest trading partner, and Taiwan is the U.S.'s fourth-largest trading partner, with bilateral trade reaching $246 billion. He expects that economic and trade relations can be further normalized, and regarding the issue of avoiding double taxation that concerns all parties, he hopes it can be further resolved through bilateral congressional exchanges, making Taiwan-U.S. economic and trade interactions smoother and more effective.
