In the final of the 9th Tan Sri Dato' Seri Tan Chee Seng Cup International Men's Basketball Invitational Tournament on the 21st, the National Chengchi University (NCCU) Eagles basketball team defeated the Forest City Crayfish team 71-69 to win the championship. This was not only the NCCU Eagles' first international competition after winning six consecutive UBA championships, but also the team's first time competing on Malaysian soil. The tournament, held in Malaysia from the 16th for six days, invited teams from Malaysia, the Philippines, and Taiwan, making it a representative international basketball exchange event in Southeast Asia. NCCU Eagles head coach Chen Tzu-wei told CNA in an interview after the game that although the team lost to the Forest City Crayfish in the first group match, they went on to win three consecutive games to advance to the finals. They eventually faced the same opponent again, successfully avenging their earlier loss and securing the championship. Regarding the championship game strategy, Chen pointed out that the team intensified their defense on the opponent's key players in the first half, successfully suppressing their offense. In the second half, they focused on securing rebounds and defending the paint, ultimately holding onto their lead. He stated that the participating lineup was mainly composed of local players, including Chen Chun-wei, Fu Chun-yao, Pan Li-cheng, and Chang Chi-en, who all played important roles in the paint. The team's performance was satisfactory. However, there is still room for improvement in rebounding battles, which will be a key focus for future strengthening. Speaking about the development of basketball in Malaysia, Chen believes that Malaysian basketball has been continuously improving in recent years, and the Tan Sri Dato' Seri Tan Chee Seng Cup provides an opportunity for local players to exchange with international teams, which is positive for enhancing overall competitiveness. The Kluang Basketball Association of Malaysia has been organizing the Tan Sri Dato' Seri Tan Chee Seng Cup International Men's Basketball Invitational Tournament since 2015, inviting teams from various Southeast Asian countries. It has gradually become an important regional basketball exchange platform. Taiwan's Shih Hsin University men's basketball team won the championship in the 7th edition in 2024, and this year, the NCCU Eagles took over the title. Notably, many NCCU alumni who studied in Taiwan reside in Malaysia and came to cheer for their alma mater during the tournament. After the championship game, many alumni flooded the sidelines to take photos with the players, sharing the joy of victory. Some alumni expressed that seeing their alma mater compete and win the championship in Malaysia was particularly exciting and proud. Source Link: https://www.rti.org.tw/news?uid=3&pid=215800
