With the support of the Ministry of Culture and three years of preparation by the Cultural Division of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Spain, Taiwan and a Spanish national-level venue have collaborated to present "Stone Feather Chronicle: Taiwanese Contemporary Art Duo" (Crónicas de Piedra y Pluma: Dúo de Arte Contemporáneo Taiwanés) starting from the 24th at the 271-year-old Royal Botanical Garden of Madrid (Real Jardín Botánico-CSIC). This is not only the first large-scale Taiwanese contemporary art exhibition held by the Royal Botanical Garden but also marks the largest visual arts exhibition ever held by Taiwan in Spain, serving as an important milestone in cultural and artistic exchange between Taiwan and Spain.
"Stone Feather Chronicle: Taiwanese Contemporary Art Duo" will be held from June 24th to August 30th in the Villanueva Exhibition Hall of the Royal Botanical Garden. Curated by independent curator Doryun Chong, the exhibition features artists Po-Chih Deng and Wen-Hsuan Liu in a dual solo exhibition format, showcasing over 50 works. Through the dialogue between artists of different generations, it presents the diverse landscape of Taiwanese contemporary art.
The "Stone" and "Feather" in the exhibition title originate from the artists Po-Chih Deng and Wen-Hsuan Liu's contemplation of Taiwan's mountainous natural landscapes and land. Po-Chih Deng depicts the profound "bedrock" realm with ink dots, resembling heavy rocks, while Wen-Hsuan Liu creates a light and flowing "flying feather" world using paper, painting, and installations. Based on their experiences of Taiwan's land and life, the two artists utilize diverse media such as ink wash, photography, painting, and installations to demonstrate how Taiwanese contemporary art continues to translate and reshape its own aesthetic language within the context of globalization.
The Royal Botanical Garden of Madrid, with its 271-year history, attracts over 460,000 visitors annually and is one of Spain's important cultural landmarks. In addition to the exhibition, lectures and guided tours are planned for the next two months, with organizers estimating an attendance of over 40,000 people. (Editor: Hsu Chia-Yuan)
