[Politics] Blue Committee Member Claims Inspections Are Routine, Green Party Responds: Everyone Knows What Should Be Done During Extended Sessions

Kuomintang (KMT) legislator Lo Chih-chiang stated today (22nd) that inspections are a routine part of the Legislative Yuan's work and a legislator's job. However, under the DPP's double standards, overseas inspections are considered 'salary thieves.' The DPP caucus stated that during extended sessions, everyone knows what legislators should be doing.
KMT legislators Lo Ting-wei, Lo Chih-chiang, and Yeh Yuan-chih held a press conference this morning. Lo Ting-wei said that various committees of the Legislative Yuan still have many tasks, but the DPP is not reviewing bills concerning people's livelihoods. On the 18th, they reviewed amendments related to early childhood education, including free public childcare and preschools, and increased subsidies for private ones. However, the DPP intended to use a motion to adjourn to paralyze the meeting, which was very regrettable.
Lo Ting-wei said the DPP should not have double standards. When KMT legislators go abroad to solve problems for Taiwanese businesses, they are called 'disasters for the nation and its people.' When DPP legislators go on overseas inspections, they are considered 'benefiting the nation and its people.' Premier Cho Jung-tai called KMT legislators 'inspection kings,' but DPP legislators are also conducting inspections today; should they not apologize?
Lo Chih-chiang said that Taiwanese businesses in Indonesia held an important event inviting legislators from both blue and green camps. Legislator Chung Chia-pin represented the DPP, while KMT caucus whip Fu Kun-chi led KMT legislators to attend. As a result, there was widespread criticism of KMT legislators going abroad to attend the Indonesian Taiwanese business event. He questioned, 'When DPP legislators go, it's beneficial to the nation and its people, but when KMT legislators go, it's a disaster for the nation and its people. Do we need such double standards?'
DPP Legislative Yuan caucus whip Chuang Jui-hsiung pointed out that during extended sessions, everyone knows what legislators should be doing. They shouldn't be criticized for overseas inspections and then hold press conferences upon returning, claiming other committees also conduct inspections. The reason the KMT is holding a press conference is due to poor public perception, and after being criticized, they make excuses and argue unreasonably.
Chuang Jui-hsiung said that inspections are normal in various committees, but overseas inspections require proper justification. What the DPP questions is that the opposition party proposed extended sessions, creating a protective umbrella, and then went on overseas inspections instead of reviewing the general budget. The KMT does not need to argue further.
DPP caucus secretary-general Fan Yun stated that the central government's general budget for the 115th fiscal year (2026) has been delayed for 297 days as of today. The conveners of the Education and Culture, Interior, Economic, and Transportation committees are all from the KMT and the Taiwan People's Party (TPP). The general budget has not yet been completed for review. With the rainy and typhoon seasons approaching, if disaster prevention budgets cannot be reviewed, the funds may not be usable, significantly impacting people's livelihoods. (Editor: Hsu Chia-yuan)
