In convenience stores in Taiwan, clerks often ask:
"Should I save the receipt to a carrier?" Many foreigners who have just arrived in Taiwan don't understand at all when they first hear it.
What is a "receipt"?
Taiwan's "receipt" is similar to a receipt in many countries. It is a proof of consumption and proof of purchase, which can be used for product returns, warranty repairs, or company reimbursements.
But Taiwan's receipts have a special function:
They can be used for lucky draws 💰💰💰💰 The government draws prizes every two months. If your receipt number wins, you can get:
200 NT dollars, 1,000 NT dollars, or even millions of NT dollars.
So many Taiwanese people save their receipts 🤑🤑🤑🤑
So, what is a "carrier"?
A "carrier" is a storage tool for electronic receipts. What are common carriers?
1. Mobile barcode (most common) provided by the Ministry of Finance's electronic receipt system.
2. EasyCard
3. Credit card (please consult your issuing bank)
4. Convenience store membership apps: OPENPOINT/FamilyMart, etc.
"Saving to a carrier" has many benefits
Because:
- You won't get a lot of paper
- It's not easy to lose
- It automatically checks for prizes for you
- You will be notified directly if you win
Very convenient.
It's okay if you don't have a carrier.
You can directly say: "I want a paper receipt."
The clerk will print it out for you.
If you live in Taiwan long-term, often shop at convenience stores, and want to experience Taiwanese life
Because many foreigners are very surprised when they win the lottery for the first time with a receipt.
