China's Q1 Marriage Registrations Reach 1.697 Million, Down 6.24% Year-on-Year

Data released by China's Ministry of Civil Affairs today (10th) shows that 1.697 million marriages were registered in the first quarter of this year, a decrease of 6.24% compared to the same period last year.
The Ministry of Civil Affairs released the "Q1 2026 Civil Affairs Statistical Data" on the 10th. The data shows that 1.697 million marriages and 622,000 divorces were registered nationwide in the first quarter. Compared to the same period last year, the number of marriage registrations decreased by 113,000, a drop of 6.24%.
China's marriage registrations reached a record high of 13.469 million in 2013, followed by 12 consecutive years of decline. In 2024, it plummeted to a record low of 6.106 million. It wasn't until 2025 that marriage registrations reached 6.763 million, an increase of 657,000 or 10.76% compared to 2024.
